Why test for A1C?

Long term control of blood sugars is very critical in the management of diabetes as it prevents complications associated with diabetes. If you keep an eye on your A1c, you really have got nothing to worry about.

High levels of A1c allows you to act on time before complications arise. This could be through lifestyle modifications such as diet and exercise, or may warrant your doctor to adjust your medications for better blood sugar control. Lifestyle changes do significantly play a role in reducing you A1c.

How do you interpret the results?

If you do not have diabetes or prediabetes, you A1C levels are expected to be ranging between 4% and 5.6%. If your levels are between 5.7% and 6.4% then it means you have prediabetes. Other term for this is glucose intolerance. You have diabetes if your A1c levels are higher than 6.5%

If you have diabetes and are using this test for monitoring of blood sugar control, you target should be A1C below 7%. Anything higher than 7% means your blood sugar has been poorly controlled for the past 3 months.

In conclusion

CVS Health A1C At Home Test Kit is quite easy and very convenient to use. It gives you reliable and accurate results within a short period (5 minutes) in the comfort of your home. It is also affordable. Remember to always show or discuss your home results with your doctor. Choose wisely, choose, CVS Health A1C At Home Test Kit. 1. A very clear concise summary of the A1C Kit, what it does, how it works and the benefits thereof. Also clearly points out what results are and that the levels should also be below 7%.

  2. Thanks for this short and sweet review, I believe the CVS Health A1C At Home Test Kit is a very useful kit for sufferers of diabetes, especially the older people suffering from diabetes. It is a good thing that it is easy to use and can be used at home since most countries are still implementing lockdown and have hospital packed due to covid-19 pandemic, but I believe the kit will also be useful post covid-19. Even though the kit does not replace the doctors appointment, it is still a very good way to keep patients health in check as they await the doctors appointment after the 6 month period!

    1. Hello Nedia.

Yes the kit is very useful especially during this pandemic. It is also advisable to always discuss your results with your doctor even if it is over the phone. Very useful for in between doctors visits to keep your health in check and take the right precautions. It is also very useful as a screening tool to those who have risk factors to diabetes. It is however important to note that it should not be used to replace the doctors visits.

      Cheers

  3. In the first paragraphs, you have answered the question that popped in my mind. Could you use that tool to know if you have prediabetes? I’m very happy to read that you should not use this home test kit to replace the doctor. I will bookmark your article because I want to buy this test for my best friend. Her boyfriend is in bad shape and take too much sugar. I wouldn’t be surprises that his blood sugar is way too high. She could use that test on him.

    1. Hi

Yes, this tool can be used to check if you have pre-diabetes. You have pre-diabetes if your levels are between 5.7% and 6.4%. Anything above 6.5% means that you probably have diabetes. I am glad this kit will be of great use to your family and friends.

      Cheers

  4. Being able to test your own blood sugar levels with a home test kit like CVS Health A1C, is ideal for anybody that is either suffering from diabetes, or are worried about their blood glucose levels and being prediabetic. And as you say, it must not replace the visit to your doctor, but it would be particularly useful for people that have mobility issues or are deemed to be vulnerable during the Covid 19 pandemic.

  5. It is good to have a home test kit for diabetes and I thank you for this review. Reading I can see that it also measures prediabetes, is that correct? A few years ago I had the condition of pre-diabetic, but that luckily went away with changing my diet. As I don’t have my doctor check this regularly, this device would be great to keep an eye on that myself every now and then! So thanks !

    1. Hi Lizzy

Yes it does tell you whether you have prediabetes or you actually have diabetes.

What you have done with your health after you were diagnosed with pre-diabetes is commendable. You did an excellent job. Shoulder on and keep on doing that excellent work with you health Yes it is true that this device will help you keep an eye on yourself now and then. make sure you keep your HbA1c below 5.7%

  6. Hey! Thanks for this one. My loved one has diabetes so this actually may be a brilliant tool but I am wondering how is this kit different from a regular glucometer which we use on a daily basis? From what I read you use this kit every 3 months? Appreciate any insight as this may help us deal with some of the problems that we have! thanks!

    1. Hello Cogito

The normal glucose meter only tests the blood sugar at a given time ( at that particular minute). The A1c kit on the other hand gives you a picture of how your blood sugar levels have been for the past 3 months. This kit will tell you if your blood sugar levels have been controlled or not for a longer period of time, as opposed to the glucose meter that only tells you be blood sugar level at that particular time when you are testing. i hope this answers your question.

      Cheers

  7. Very informative article. The site content is relevant to the niche. The content is also unique with easy to read paragraphs and sentences. Not many technical terms. Product knowledge is also very good.

It also gives solution to people suffering from diabetes.  The home test kits are a very good monitoring tool of blood sugar so that patient can seek help before the situation gets out of hand.

I was also happy with the professional advice that the product that the writer is promoting must not be a replacement for seeing the doctor.

  8. Thanks for this short and clear review. I feel that it is so useful to have a device like this especially during times like these when it is not always safe to go to the doctors. Diabetes runs in my family so I understand the value of checking and controlling blood sugar levels. Being at home in lockdown for such long periods of time, people tend to binge eat and not watch what they eat which leads to health issues that they aren’ even aware of. I will be sharing this review with other people in my network who I think may benefit. Do you think it is easy to buy more strips for this tool once the two run out?

    1. Hello Sasha. there are no refills. Once you use the two test kits, you buy a new kit. If you are using a 6 monthly checks, then you just buy one kit per year

  9. Thank you for introducing me to CVS Health A1C At Home Test Kit. We always had to take my mom to the Dr then pathologist to determine her long term blood sugar level. Its pro’s are amazing, they override the cons making it very worth it to have one. I concur though that patients should resist the temptation of making this kit replace their visit to the Doctor.

    1. Hi Bogadi

Thank you for going through this review. Yes, self monitoring should never replace Doctor visits

  10. Thank you for your wonderful review_CVS Health A1C At Home Test Kit Review. Diabetes is a chronic illness a lot of people battle with. I love the convenience of being able to take your test at home and get the results in like 5 minutes. Between doctor visits you may want to know your status, that way you can do the necessary changes like monitoring your diet.

    1. Hello Diana.

Yes many people do battle with Diabeted and some have pre-diabetes and do not even know. Self monitoring is necessary to make the right changes

  11. I initially had concerns that it only had 2 test strips, and I tend to mess up things I am trying for the first time. But after reading from several posts how easy is to use this kit, I have been encouraged to give it a try. I believe it’s very convenient. And I will still be super careful obviously, LOL. I don’t want to end up having to buy a new packet.
